FAQs
What are your compostable bags made of?
Our Mulch Mailers are made of PBAT, PLA and corn starch along with our innovative ink which is made from soy.
How do we compost the Mulch Mailers?
You can compost them at home by first removing any labels/stickers, cut them up and place in your garden compost. It will take between 90-120 days to completely breakdown. Depending on the conditions of the environment, it might be sooner.
Do your Mulch Mailers have a shelf life?
Yes, when kept under cool and dry conditions our Mulch Mailers have a shelf life of up to 12 months. Our mailers are quite dense and therefore only sea freight is an option. As such, we have a lead time of 21 days from our manufacturer so its best to consider purchasing for a 3-6 month period.
Are the strips covering the adhesive sticker on the Mulch Mailer bag compostable?
The strips are not compostable for the following reasons:
- If the strip were compostable, it would not peel off the adhesive sticker and would render the entire bag unusable as you would not be able to seal the bag.
- If the strip were compostable, it may leech into the adhesive strip itself, and reduce its efficacy in sealing the bag.
*Please note: The soft plastic strip is removed by you, leaving the compostable Mulch Mailer ready for your customers to compost at home. You may collect the strips and dispose of it at your local recycling facility.
How do I share the news that my company is using Mulch Mailer bags?
We have a link to our media files that can be used to download our branding files for use in your social media content and on your website.
Where are your compostable Mulch Mailers produced?
We have located a certified manufacturer in China that adheres to our list of requirements which includes;
- Safe working conditions
- High quality raw material
- Dedicated research and development team
- Factory that only produces items from the resin derived from plant starches, vegetable oils & compostable polymers that can be consumed by micro-organisms that live in our soil.
- International certifications: EN13432, ISO9001/ISO14001, OK Compost, OK Compost HOME, ASTM D6400, AS4736 & AS5810
As it stands, our Mulch Mailers are produced in China and while it may be frowned upon, we assure you that our research has led us to the best manufacturer of compostable material in general.
We spent months searching for local manufacturers to develop the product we had in mind, however, they were not able to offer our unique product design.
China has access to the highest quality raw materials and our manufacturer has heavily invested in research and development, such that we were able to work together to introduce soy-based ink technology into our design which is a first of its kind.
Our goal is to be able to produce our Mulch Mailers locally, but this will take time and we dont want to wait any longer to start making a difference!
